Aero Sets October 21 Launch for Aerodrome and Velodrome Merger Terms
Aero has announced the token swap terms and timeline for merging Aerodrome and Velodrome, with the process set to begin at 8:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time on October 21. At that time, emissions from both legacy platforms will stop, existing AERO will convert 1:1 into new AERO, and each VELO will swap for about 0.044 AERO, with the same ratio applying to both circulating and locked tokens.According to ChainCatcher, the VELO conversion ratio will depend on supply at launch, while Aerodrome holders will receive 94.5% of the new supply and Velodrome holders will receive 5.5%. DefiLlama data showed the two exchanges had about $422 million in combined total value locked as of October 9.The merger was announced in November 2025, and developer Dromos Labs had originally planned to complete it in the second quarter of 2026. The new model replaces the weekly voting cycle with real-time allocation, and sAERO holders can direct rewards to liquidity pools and earn from exchange revenue, with a 47-hour cooldown period at the start of allocation changes.Existing veAERO and veVELO positions will convert into new sAERO positions, with remaining lock time carried over and rounded up to the nearest week. Permanent locks will become the longest-duration stake. Tokens will not convert automatically, and self-custody holders must use the upgrade portals on aerodrome.finance or velodrome.finance after claiming rewards and rebase and clearing active votes.
