Ethereum Hoodi Testnet Glamsterdam Hard Fork Delayed
The Glamsterdam hard fork on Ethereum’s Hoodi testnet has been delayed. According to ChainCatcher, smart contract security firm ChainSecurity said on October 22 that researchers found security-impacting issues in existing contracts and identified 13 real-world cases; they are conducting responsible disclosures with affected projects. The announcement urged teams to review their contracts, while the Ethereum Foundation assesses the scope of the impact. It did not name the projects involved, provide contract addresses, or set a replacement fork date. The issues concern contracts that continue executing after catching failed external calls: under the gas changes reviewed, a failure handler could finish execution where it previously would have run out of gas and reverted. A caller could provide too little gas to complete the intended operation but enough for the outer contract to record a permanent failure, removing a recovery path for an operation that could otherwise be retried. The technical disclosure reviewed EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 in the October 13 specification version, and its gas examples describe proposed execution behavior. The state-gas reservoir passes through calls in full, forwarding limits apply to execution gas, and gasleft() reports only the remaining execution gas. Under the reviewed rules, clearing storage slots that were zero at the start of a transaction could return up to 97,920 execution gas. An intermediary contract could also, upon REVERT, credit previously counted state-creation costs back and return them to the caller.
