Ethereum: Protocol cluster targets quantum-resistant L1 by December 2029 - Dec 2029

The Ethereum Foundation's Protocol cluster has committed to delivering a quantum-resistant Ethereum L1 no later than December 2029. The target anchors planning for the proposed Hegotá fork, where post-quantum cryptography EIPs are being shaped, while leaving capacity in later forks for remaining work.A hard deadline changes how protocol decisions get made. Fork scheduling, EIP selection, and client work can now be sequenced backward from December 2029, which reduces the risk that quantum-resistance research stays theoretical. The Hegotá fork becomes the first concrete checkpoint for that plan. The commitment is a multi-year roadmap target, not a near-term change to token economics or network behavior. Progress depends on proposed EIPs passing review and on the standard fork process, so interim updates will matter more than the deadline itself. We've published the EF Protocol cluster's priorities and our first shared Hegotá EIP tier list, with input from ~60 researchers and engineers across all 9 Protocol teams. We're aggressively targeting a quantum-resistant Ethereum L1 no later than December 2029. That has…
