Solana: 200ms slots go live on mainnet-beta - 09 Oct 2026
Solana's final slot reduction goes live on mainnet-beta at the epoch 1053 boundary, expected around 15:00 UTC on October 9, 2026. The update reduces slot duration from 250 milliseconds to 200 milliseconds and completes the network's slot reduction series from 400 milliseconds. The shorter slot interval makes blocks and finality 20% faster than under the preceding 250-millisecond setting. The final step removes another 50 milliseconds from each slot, bringing the cumulative reduction to half the original duration. This supports Solana's core performance thesis through a change in network timing, although the announcement does not establish whether the faster timing translates into greater usage.Final slot reduction step: 200ms slots activation now pending on mainnet-beta.400 → 350 → 300 → 250 → 200msReminder, SIMD-0525 features take effect one epoch after they activate. Thus, will go live at the epoch 1053 boundary ~15:00 UTC, Friday Oct 9th.- epoch 1051:…
