Sui Foundation Invests $30 Million in DATA Network as AI Training Data Protocol Moves to Sui
The Sui Foundation said it will invest $30 million in DATA Network as part of a strategic partnership. According to Odaily, DATA Network will join the Sui technology stack, integrate with the onchain data storage platform Walrus, and migrate its protocol to run natively on Sui.The Sui Foundation will become DATA Network’s largest institutional holder alongside existing stakeholders PIP Labs and DATA Foundation. The independent chain will be retired, and existing DATA tokens will migrate to Sui on a 1:1 basis. Until the transition is completed, the original network will continue operating, and the Sui Foundation said it will publish a detailed timeline before the upgrade.Walrus will become the default storage layer for applications operated by DATA Foundation. DATA Foundation shifted from general intellectual property infrastructure to AI training data in June and launched Trace that month to track the source and usage rights of AI training data and settle payments to data contributors.Trace has recorded more than 250 million contributions since launch and now processes more than 3 million receipts per day. Mysten Labs co-founder and chief product officer said the AI industry has entered a phase in which open internet content is being fully read, and the next frontier is access to consented datasets with the provenance required for regulation.
